IN 1959, THE BRITISH MOTOR CORPORATION LAUNCHED A COMPACT 2 DOOR, 4 SEATER CAR DESIGNED BY SIR ALEC ISSIGONIS. THIS CAR WAS CHRISTENED THE AUSTIN SEVEN AND THE MORRIS MINI AND OVERNIGHT AN ICON WAS CREATED
IN 1966, BOUYED BY THE SUCCESS OF HIS THREEWHEELER PEEL MICROCARS,
CYRIL CANNELL DESIGNED A 2 DOOR GRP MONOCOQUE TO REPLACE DAMAGED OR RUSTING MINI BODYSHELLS, HIS CAR BECAME KNOWN AS THE PEEL VIKING SPORT GT. MOST OF THESE CARS WERE SOLD AS KITS, BUT A FEW TURNKEY CARS WERE ALSO MADE. OF THE 30 PRODUCED, ONLY SEVEN ARE THOUGHT TO HAVE SURVIVED. |
